Challenge
No continuous visibility on HVAC temperature and consumption; failures spotted late by visual inspection.
Solution
Non-intrusive Modbus integration with existing equipment, continuous telemetry, configurable thresholds and escalated alerts to on-call.
The client operated technical rooms with redundant HVAC but no centralized monitoring — the only alert was when a technician saw a red light or when a server reported excessive temperature. We deployed an edge gateway per room that polls HVACs via Modbus TCP every 30 seconds, normalizes variables (each vendor names them differently) and publishes via MQTT to AWS IoT Core. Grafana shows a per-room view and a per-device view, with 3-level alerting (Slack → email → SMS+PagerDuty) by severity. Historical data made it possible to detect degradation patterns before failure and plan preventive maintenance.
